Kate Middleton and Prince William weren’t in the stands for any of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, but on Sunday they sent out a message proving that they were following along at home. During the Paris closing ceremonies, the Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted out a video that showed a clip of them congratulating the athletes of Team Great Britain alongside video messages from celebrities including Snoop Dogg and David Beckham. Filmed in their Norfolk yard, their cameo featured William with a very uncharacteristic beard, while Kate wore a familiar Breton striped shirt.

“From all of us watching at home, congratulations to Team GB,” Kate said.

“Well done on all you’ve achieved,” continued William. “You’ve been an inspiration to us all.”

William’s choice of facial hair might have something to do with the fact that he and his family, including children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, are on summer break at their country home in Norfolk. Though William and Kate didn’t make it across the channel to see Team GB in action, they did send a message congratulating Britain's Equestrian Eventing team and mountain biker Tom Pidcock when they won the nation’s first gold medals on July 29.

The video concluded with a comment from Snoop on behalf of himself, William, and Kate. “Thank you Great Britain, on behalf of big Snoop Dogg, the prince, and his lovely wife,” he said.

The video also included British notables including athletes Dame Kelly Holmes, Sir Chris Hoy, and Rebecca Adlington, along  with broadcasters Gabby Logan and Clare Balding. Though Snoop Dogg is an unusual addition to that list, his connection to William goes way back. In 2015, Snoop told The Guardian that Queen Elizabeth II had indicated that William and Prince Harry were fans as far back as the 1990s.

“When they tried to kick me out of England, the Queen made a comment that her grandbabies loved Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he had done no wrong in the UK, so she gave me permission to be here,” said the rapper and television personality. “Those grandbabies grew up to be Prince William and Harry, so I had influence on them, and they had influence on their grandmother, which enabled me to get into this beautiful country. They love my music, and it is what it is. There’s a mutual love and respect.”

Following Sunday’s closing ceremony, King Charles III also released a statement of congratulations to the athletes of Team GB, adding that he and Queen Camilla were inspired by their feats. “Your achievements, across so many disciplines, were forged from that invaluable combination of raw talent, true grit and hard toil over many years, burnished these past weeks by sportsmanship and team spirit in the finest tradition of the Games,” it read. “To those who missed out on the greatest prizes, you have most certainly not fallen short in the pride that you, too, have generated for your nations.”

Though the king and queen did not attend this summer’s Games, the Windsors were represented by Princess Anne and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. Anne, a former Olympian and longtime member of the International Olympics Committee, was on hand to distribute medals to the winners in equestrian events, and also watched competitions in rugby sevens, swimming, equestrian, rowing, sailing and windsurfing. On August 6, Sophie was in the audience as the British women’s sprint cycling team nabbed a gold medal.
